I have had this problem since XP and W2K3 and have never found a work-around. As all of my displays (HP ZR24w) are now 1920x1200 capable it is very frustating to have them limited to a fuzzy 1600x1200 when the extenders and KVM are capable of well over 1920x1200. When I connect the HP ZR24w display directly to the PC it works fine and is recognized as an HP ZR24w and runs at 1920x1200. That is to say there is NO PROBLEM with the Graphics Card, the Display Drivers, the Cable or the HP LCD Display when they are run 'normally'. The problem lies in the fact that the extenders are not passing back the EDID information from the monitor back to the PC. I know this as a FACT because the minute I connect an extender or KVM between the monitor the PC when it is running in 1920x1200 it immediately defaults to a Generic Non-PNP monitor and restricts the resolution to 1600x1200. Clearly Windows (or is it the Graphics Hardware itself?) has got to be getting the upper limit of 1600x1200 from 'somewhere'.

The registry seems a likely place but I can't find the settings anywhere. Is there a registry hack or some other work-around for this problem. I cannot possibly be the only person on the planet using VGA extenders or KVM's with my desktop PC's. Done all that.
