I have a fair amount of soldering experience, having modified several mechanical keyboards. I have also built a few boards as well. So, I only know how to solder PCB. Is the Speedball always visible on the outside of the box? I have seen pictures of the speedball and each one displays the chips and electrical components on the outside of the box. Can you place it on the inside of the box?
Are there any other options in the same price range that work as well with the HD650s? The pairing of the Speedball Crack & HD600/650s is legendary. I love the warmer sound signature of the 650s and replaced my 600s accordingly. I am not into music or audio proudction; I am using them purely for audio entertainment via gaming and primarily rock music. If you can solder and measure/cut/strip wires, you can build a Crack. The Speedball goes inside. There are a few screw holes inthe top that aren't used without the Speedball, so you can tell without looking inside whether it's installed.
But it goes inside the box. There are other options, but the Crack can be modded to be better than most other budget options. Add film capacitors to replace the electrolytic output caps and add a stepped attenuator and the thing really, really sings.
